1. UX Designer

  • Job Title: UX Designer
  • Salary: £28,000 – £35,000 pa, dependent on experience
  • Location: Bath, UK
  • Type: 9 month fixed-term contract (possibility to become permanent role), full time (37.5 hours)

Ecodesk is currently at a pivotal stage as we evolve our platform to support changing data collection trends and to address wider challenges around reporting fatigue and the standardisation of metrics. We’re looking for an exceptional UX Designer to help take Ecodesk to the next level by ensuring optimal user experience and design.

Job Description:

Ecodesk is a complex cloud platform facilitating the collection, processing, analysis, aggregation and presentation of a wide range of sustainability data. The platform must deliver for a global user base, across multiple devices and for a range of organisations at different maturity levels. This role presents an interesting challenge for a creative and solutions-focused individual to translate a complex suite of functionality into an engaging experience for non-technical users.

As UX Designer, working closely with the product development team, you are primarily responsible for ensuring a design-led approach to major platform upgrades which delivers excellent user experience. As a hands-on practitioner you’ll be happy to research, design and assess new product features.


  • Determine UX requirements for platform upgrades through research and application of best practice;
  • Plan and conduct user research to evaluate and iterate on product features and interfaces;
  • Work closely with product development team to integrate UX requirements into the development workflow;
  • Translate technical and UX requirements into detailed front-end specifications through the development of user personas, wireframes, visual assets and accompanying style guides;
  • Ensure design meets relevant legal requirements such as accessibility standards;
  • Ensure effective signposting throughout the site;
  • Provide in-house expertise on current design trends;
  • Proactively identify areas for continuous improvement in UX effectiveness and styling across Ecodesk’s work.

About You:

You will be passionate about the role of technology to provide meaningful solutions to global sustainability challenges, and the importance of great design in engaging and supporting a wide range of organisations to transparently report on their environmental and social performance. We’re looking for a committed and self-motivated individual with a strong eye for detail, keen to deliver beyond expectations and adept at identifying creative solutions to complex problems.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3 years’ experience as a UX Designer or similar role;
  • Portfolio covering web-app products across a range of devices;
  • Good knowledge of best practice in UX design, including responsive design and awareness of sensitivities for a global user base;
  • Experience conducting design-led user research;
  • Strong prototyping skills (Illustrator; Photoshop; Sketch; Axure; Photo.io or similar);
  • Ability to visually communicate technical information to a non-technical audience;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to adapt and deliver work with agility in a fast growing business.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:

  • Previous experience working on technology for positive social/environmental change;
  • Knowledge of material design concepts;
  • An understanding of HTML5, CSS3 and Angular Material.
